WHAT TO EXPECT

YOUR FIRST MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE SESSION

What Will My First Manual Lymphatic Drainage Session Be Like?

Your first manual lymphatic drainage session at Full Circle Vitality is designed to feel calm, comfortable and completely unhurried. From the moment you arrive, you will be welcomed into a quiet, private treatment studio with soft lighting, soothing sound therapy and a peaceful atmosphere that allows your body to begin settling before the session even starts.

Arriving for Your First Session

Your session takes place in a private therapeutic studio located in a peaceful residential area of Columbus, Ohio. The space is dedicated exclusively to medical lymphatic & massage treatments. Every detail has been thoughtfully arranged to support privacy, comfort and deep relaxation.

When you arrive, you will complete a simple one-page intake form. Valerie will then spend a few minutes talking with you about what brought you in, including any swelling, discomfort, surgery, health conditions or specific areas of concern you may have. You will also have an opportunity to discuss what you hope to receive from your session.

Because every person and every lymphatic system is different, your treatment will be tailored to your body rather than following the exact same routine for every client.

Getting Comfortable on the Treatment Table

You will be given privacy to prepare and get comfortable on the treatment table. It is recommended that necklaces and bracelets be removed before treatment. Earrings and rings can usually remain on.

Because restriction from clothing can interfere with access to the areas being treated, wearing as little as you are comfortable with is generally best. You will remain properly and modestly draped throughout your entire session, with only the area being treated uncovered.

The heating optional, ergonomic treatment table is arranged with supportive pillows, premium linens and comfortable positioning to help your body relax fully. Once you are ready, Valerie will gently knock before re-entering the room.

Your Manual Lymphatic Drainage Treatment

Manual lymphatic drainage is very different from deep-tissue massage. True Vodder-style MLD uses light, rhythmic and precisely directed movements to encourage lymphatic fluid toward healthy drainage pathways. The pressure is intentionally gentle because many of the lymphatic vessels being addressed are located just beneath the surface of the skin.

Treatment generally begins by stimulating key lymph node regions and preparing the areas where lymphatic fluid ultimately returns to the bloodstream. MLD commonly begins near the neck and upper chest and may also include abdominal work to address deeper lymphatic vessels and encourage central lymphatic flow.

Valerie will then work through the appropriate areas of the body in a carefully planned sequence. Depending on your needs and the length of your appointment, your session may include the abdomen, arms, legs, back, face or areas affected by swelling, surgery, fluid retention or fibrosis.

Specialized breathing and lymphatic activation techniques may also be incorporated to help prepare the body and support the movement of lymphatic fluid throughout the treatment.

What Does Manual Lymphatic Drainage Feel Like?

The movements used during MLD are gentle, repetitive and deeply relaxing. Many clients become so relaxed that they fall asleep during treatment.

You may notice gentle movement or gurgling in the abdomen, increased swallowing, subtle sensations of fluid shifting or an overall feeling of lightness. Some clients feel noticeable changes during the session, while others simply experience a profound sense of calm. The treatment should never feel painful, forceful or aggressive.

You may also need to use the restroom during your appointment. MLD can influence fluid movement and some clients notice increased urination during or after treatment. Your session can be paused as often as necessary so that you remain completely comfortable.

A More Comprehensive Lymphatic Treatment Experience

A treatment at Full Circle Vitality extends beyond a standard lymphatic massage. Valerie combines classical German Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage with thoughtfully selected complementary therapies designed to support lymphatic movement, circulation, tissue comfort and relaxation.

Depending on your individual needs, your session may include -

  • Specialized manual lymphatic drainage sequences

  • Breathing and lymphatic activation techniques

  • Chi movement therapy

  • Vibrational therapy

  • Oscillation-assisted tissue stimulation

  • Hydrotherapy

  • Light therapeutic cupping

  • Reflexology

  • Therapeutic aromatherapy

  • Relevant acupressure point therapy

These therapies are not added according to a fixed formula. They are carefully selected and incorporated when appropriate for your body, treatment goals and current condition.

As the treatment progresses, many clients experience a deep sense of calm, lightness and internal clearing.

At the End of Your Session

At the end of your treatment, you will be given time to sit up slowly, get dressed and reorient before leaving. You will never be rushed out of the studio.

Valerie may discuss how your body responded, areas that received particular attention and whether additional sessions or home-care recommendations may be helpful. Some clients leave feeling lighter, clearer and more energized, while others feel deeply relaxed and ready to rest.

Spring water and a private ensuite bathroom are available for your comfort and convenience.
